Swim Team 2018

I was happy to find a low-key swim team program for the summer (although I do really miss the swim program in Louisiana). I'm so proud of how much Peter and Rigby have improved in their swimming skills.

Avila Beach & Central Coast Aquarium

We may live in the middle of the dessert, but we do live close to some nice beaches. We decided to make a trip up to Avila Beach along the Central Coast of California. We were naive and did not think about how much colder the weather and water would be on the West Coast and just further up on the California Coastline. We should have known better with our geology backgrounds. Water on the East Coast comes up from the equator and water on the West Coast comes down from the Artic (much colder!). So instead of spending the entire day on the cold beach, we went to a small aquarium for an hour, played on the playground for an hour and spent 30 minutes on the beach or in the waves before we decided to go back to warm Bakersfield. We are just too spoiled by the East Coast!

Central Coast Aquarium
I felt like this aquarium was a bit overpriced for how small it was. However, it was somewhere warm to hang out and it was fun to see the juvenile octopus they had. We watched a museum employee put its food inside a glass, screw-top jar and the octopus could figure out how to unscrew it to eat. The employee said that most octopi eventually acquire the cognitive ability of a human four-year old. Crazy!

School Papers: 2017-2018

Adeline - Kindergarten

Rigby - 2nd Grade

Peter - 4th Grade

These are Peter's Titanic rooms.

His amazing teacher, Mrs. Bourelle, and her husband created this boat with all of their Titanic rooms. It was impressive!
