Spring Baseball 2016 - Rigby & Peter

Rigby played his first season of baseball this spring. He had fun but told us he did not want to do it again and said, "I'm too tired. There is too much walking."

At the beginning of the season he liked to sit down and play in the dirt.

By the end of the season, Scott got him to stand and he would occasionally draw in the dirt with his foot.

Rigby has a low key sense of humor and likes to quietly goof off and do things like this (wearing his helmet backwards).

This was Peter's 3rd season of baseball. He has improved a lot and is really starting to enjoy it.

Adeline's Speech and Preschool Papers

Adeline had fun participating in a co-op preschool group this last school year. She also participated in speech and had a tutor come to our house because her speech delay caused her to be a little behind in some of her pre-academic skills.

Here is Adeline in ready for her first day of preschool co-op.

Here are some of her first drawings she has made this school year. She once told me this was a picture of her baby sister; we are still waiting for "baby sister" to make an appearance.

Here are some paper/projects she made with Miss Michelle (tutor), Miss Joel (tutor) and Miss Mitzi (speech teacher).

Miss Mitzi & Adeline
Adeline, Reuben and I loved getting to know Miss Mitzi and will miss seeing her this next school year! We are so thankful for her help!

Adeline went from hardly talking at the beginning of the school year to a little chatterbox that most people can understand now. Everyone comments now on how much more and better she can talk. Adeline's speech teacher thinks she has a mild form of apraxia (when brain has problems planning to move the body parts-such as the lips, jaw, tongue-needed for speech). Much to the amazement of all her teachers and myself, she has been a very hard worker and made more and faster progress than anybody expected. We love our sweet, hard-working girl and are so proud of her!

Rigby's Kindergarten School Papers and Graduation

Here are some highlights of things that Rigby completed during Kindergarten this year:

This is a piece from early in the year. He wrote about frogs and how they eat flies. I am not sure exactly what it all says though.

He wrote: I like my family. I like frogs.

He talked about this art project for weeks before he did it and weeks after he completed it. Despite the grim expression, this boy LOVES frogs and art projects-just not pictures.

I used potty humor to get a big grin out of him for this picture. These are colored egg shells with a border of Mardi Gras beads.

Out of all the drawings he did this year, I thought this was one of his best ones. He told me that he was looking at a picture of a tree frog when he drew this.

Ms. Kottemann and Rigby with his frog award for "being hoppy at all times." He really is such an even tempered kid most of the time.

Both Scott and I were a little concerned that Rigby's speech delay would effect how he did in Kindergarten, but in the end his teacher recommended that Rigby test to get into a more advanced class. One of my favorite stories from his teacher is when she had each of the kids come back and choose a career card for what they wanted to do when they got older. Rigby looked at each card and said, "I don't like any of these. Can I be an inventor instead?" Ms. Kottemann said she was surprised because all the other kids just picked their favorite one, but Rigby in his ever creative way wanted something different. He tells me that he and Peter will work together when they get older; Rigby will come up with the invention ideas and make the drawings while Peter does the math for the inventions. We love our sweet, creative, frog-loving boy!
