After our trip to Puerto Rico, my parents were able to stay and visit with us for another week. My parents and I love to go sight-seeing, so we all bravely drug the kids along for a visit to a couple of museums and a plantation.
Louisiana's Civil War Museum
Adeline, Rigby, Reuben and I with a cannon.
A tree trunk with bullets from a Civil War battle.
An amputation kit. It looks like a hack saw Scott has in the garage.
Each battalion had its own flag in the Confederacy. I am not sure if they knew how to count or not but many of them had anywhere from 11 to 13 stars-not sure why.
New Orleans 1850
The 1850 House is an example of a middle income family of New Orleans in the 1850's.
Adeline showing some attitude and Reuben eying his next escape route to the stairs.
Apparently, some of society believed that it was unnatural or uneducated to see a baby crawl so they encouraged babies to walk as soon as possible using things such as this jumper/walker in the picture below.
I don't know and didn't hear most of the information on the tour because I was busy throwing up and worrying about kids, but this was a beautiful plantation with a lot of fun things to see. It was interesting to see the workers dressed in period clothing.
The dining room during the evening was the only room that the teenage boys were allowed to be in the house. As soon as each boy turned 13, they had to move to a little side house away from the main house.
I thought this picture was interesting of how the walls looked before they plastered them.
Blacksmith Demonstration
Mom & Dad watching the blacksmith work.
Adeline pouting with Grandma and wearing her first set of full pigtails!
Fun at Home
The boys had fun building a pirate ship with Grandpa-especially Rigby.
