Our New Life

Well, Rigby has been easier to deal with than I anticipated. Peter, on the other hand, has been MUCH harder to handle than I thought. He is a full-fledged, tantrum throwing two-year old. AHHHHHH!!! These days I am convinced we are done having children, but I am sure I will eventually adjust and change my mind (not any time soon though:).

Rigby usually only wakes up to eat twice each night and then goes back to sleep immediately after eating. I had heard of such babies, but I never expected to get one! He is such a contented little boy; I LOVE it!
Here is my chubby little baby:
My only complaint is that he has at least 7 or 8 poopy diapers every day and is a bit of a slow/lazy eater. If he sleeps at night though, I can deal with those things.

Peter has been having a lot of fun with my mom these past couple of weeks. After practicing the alphabet with Scott the past several months and now with my mom, he can identify at least half of the upper case letters!
He is even smarter when it comes to throwing tantrums. I did not realize how much he had been manipulating us with these tantrums until Rigby was born. I think we are making progress though. Good thing the kid is so darn cute!

Here he is trying on Rigby's hat:

Here we are on a walk:

This is my way of keeping sane when I start going stir crazy at home. I LOVE my double stroller!

More Hospital Pictures

Here are some more pictures of Rigby and the family:

The only time Peter has cared to pay attention to Rigby is when he is pointing out his nose, eyes, ears, etc.

Peter refused to hold Rigby for a picture and wanted nothing to do with me when I was holding him. It was a miracle we got a picture this good.

My novel if you care to read it:

Rigby's arrival turned out very different than I expected. I began having bad cramps, stomach aches, and nausea throughout the weekend starting on Friday. Then, about 7:30 Sunday night some decent contractions began about 10-15 minutes apart. After an hour or two, they stopped; I thought, "False alarm." That night I continued to have the bad cramps like the previous two nights, so I did not think much of it.

About 7:15 Monday morning, the contractions started again at 10 minutes apart. I decided to take a shower and see how I felt after that. I discovered blood everywhere (sorry for the gory details), so I called Scott at work and said, "Come home. It's time to go to the hospital." While he was taking a cab home, I got Peter ready for my friend to pick up. Every time I leaned down and said, "Ouch, ouch, ouch," Peter laughed-thanks kido :).

Anyway, my friend and Scott showed up at 8:40, and then, Scott and I left in a hurry for the hospital. That is when things got really bad! In the van my contractions were coming less than 5 minutes apart, and I was yelling some not so good words. When we pulled up to the hospital at 9:05, I could not walk very far and there was not a single wheel chair in sight. So, while Scott and the hospital employees were rounding one up, I gradually drug myself into the lobby. Everyone was staring at me as I moaned and squirmed through each contraction. When I got to the room, the nurse said, "You are fully effaced and dilated." My reply was, "So does that mean I don't get an epidural?" YEP! No pain killers for me. I flipped out a little until the nurse told me I needed to calm down. The pushing began and 10-15 minutes later Rigby was born at 9:54-less than one hour after arriving at the hospital. I came way too close to delivering him at home or in the car for my comfort!

This was much different than Peter's 9 1/2 hour labor, 1 1/2 hours of pushing, and an epidural. The only similarity is that they both came early. Peter came 11 days early and Rigby came 7 days early (good boys!). Recovery has been GREAT without all of the epidural side effects. However, I don't know if I would have the nerve to go natural again if I had a choice; I am a complete wimp. Well, enough of this novel, I have a poopy diaper to change!

Rigby!

Rigby was born this morning at 9:54 AM CST. That is less than an hour after we got to the hospital (9:05 AM)! Rigby was 20.5 inches long and weighed 7 lbs 10 oz. Everything went well and now Rachel and Rigby are resting here are a few pictures that I took just after he was born. We'll put some more up later but for now, enjoy!

Weeding in January?

I never thought it was possible, but we have been weeding in January! I love the winters here, but I hate that the weeds do not stop growing all year round. It has been in the mid 70's the past few days, so I made Scottie and Peter help me weed on Saturday.

Peter helped out a little but soon lost interest. We have no idea why, but he decided he wanted his pants off. There was no poopy diaper, his pants were not wet, he just wanted them off. Silly little boy!

Well, 3 1/2 weeks until Rigby is due to show up. He keeps resting on a nerve in my leg, so when I am walking, my leg will suddenly buckle underneath me. In fact, the other night I had to crawl up the stairs to bed. I really think he needs to find another place to put his little head.

The Big Two

Happy Birthday Peter! Well, it did not start out very happy. This is what Peter looked like while Scott and I were singing Happy Birthday to him:

Perhaps we sounded so awful that he could not take it :).

Also, he would not blow the candles out, so I had to do that for him. However, once the candles were out, he stole an Oreo wheel from the cake and then was happy as a lark. Yummy food fixes everything for a boy! Here is his choo, choo train cake:

I will most certainly make this cake again. It turned out okay, but I definitely could do a much better job the second time around.

The rest of the night the kido enjoyed playing with his toys:

I cannot believe he is two. The second year has gone by faster than the first. I have had a harder time seeing him turn two than when he turned one. It is probably those pregnancy hormones (what will I do when I don't have pregnancy to blame everything on!?). We love you my sweet little boy!

The New Year

I have been busy trying to get some things done before the baby gets here, so I have not taken the time to post anything lately. Here is a little of what we have been up to since Christmas.

My friend, Shauna, her husband, Trevor, and their twin girls came to visit for New Years Eve. We loved having them over! We enjoyed the holidays by ourselves, but it was nice to have some company. Shauna and I enjoyed ditching the kidos and hubbies to go shopping for new purses and just getting out!!! Scott and Trevor enjoyed playing video games on their computers. The kidos (all three almost 2 years old) just ran a muck playing with toys and each other the entire weekend. Here are some cute pictures of the kidos.

Moriah and Peter

Clara, Peter, Moriah
The table and chairs were a hit
and a constant source of contention for the odd kid out.

Peter has been very content to play with his tool bench. His latest interest is actually dismantling it. He managed to take the black top part off shortly after this picture was taken.

He is also obsessed with wearing hats lately
(or "wa" as he calls them).

Scottie and I were able to make our last trip to the temple before Rigby makes his debut. I did not realize how spoiled I was in Utah being so close to many temples and having my parents as built-in babysitters. It really is a miracle when we make it there, and we only live one hour away from the Houston Temple.

Scottie has been enjoying his video games as much as he can before we become parents to two little boys. He has also been completing some items on my "honey-do list". Here are Scottie and Peter fixing my piano bench. Cute!

Aside from getting things ready before the baby comes, I have just been getting fatter and fatter. The no sleeping and feeling like an enormous beached whale part has hit. Five more weeks until Rigby's ETA (or so I hope)! I could go for less too.

Oh, a few more things about Peter. He is obsessed with Mike (Monsters, Inc.). It is the only movie he will watch for more than 10 minutes. I get requests for Mike multiple times a day, but I usually restrict it to no more than three times a week. Next, this last week he made the transition from the crib to a mattress on the floor. So far, so good (knock on wood ;).

Also, Curious George is a new favorite of Peter's. I often find Peter putting George night-night, folding his arms to pray, feeding him, telling him "no, no, no", sticking him on the potty chair, and other cute little things. It is so much fun to see Peter develop fun new ways to play with things.

Good-bye, until Peter's birthday next week!

Christmas 2009

It was a quiet Christmas with just Scott, Peter, and I, but we really enjoyed relaxing. In fact, we had frozen pizza on Christmas Eve and spaghetti and bread sticks on Christmas day. I am thinking that easy meals are going to be a Christmas tradition for us since I am not very passionate about cooking. Maybe we will institute a traditional dessert on Christmas Eve next year.

We all began the morning by sleeping in until almost 10 a.m. (Peter is the best sleeper :)! As we wandered downstairs, Peter took one look at the presents under the tree and his tent, turned around, and ran to the computer. He then turned it on and started talking about "bu bu's" (buttons) and "CC's" (CD's). We had to coax him back into the other room by telling him the lights on the tree needed to be plugged into the outlet. Finally, he became interested in the presents when we showed him how to rip the paper off; he enjoys and is good at destruction. He really liked the toys, but the treats are really what got his attention. Every two seconds during unwrapping, he was begging for treats. Here are the pictures:

Most of my Christmas present was getting a budget to buy some things to hang on the walls. Here are my boys on Christmas Eve posing beneath the first official picture hung in the house. It is about time after living here for six months.
Thank you my sweet hubby for staying up late on Christmas Eve to hang things up!

This is what it looked like after Santa stopped by.

Peter's favorite toys, so far, include an electronic alphabet book/game, his tent, and a battery operated toy drill and flashlight. Here is my cute little handyman in training.

I guess this little handyman needs a lot more training. Drilling into his ear is probably not the greatest idea.

Scott was so enamored with the flash and zoom lens he got for the camera that he did not notice Peter trying to play with a CC while he documented it with a picture.
Our stockings look just like a Santa hat we have, so Peter just assumed it was a hat as well.

I decided to document my growing belly.
Eight weeks until Rigby's ETA!
Knock on wood before I type this next part. I am feeling really good about this pregnancy compared to my pregnancy with Peter. I have gained less weight, hardly any water retention so far, and minimal acne. Hopefully it continues to go so well.

I love this picture of my boys and their power tools. It is so cute to watch Peter go around the house with his drill and flashlight imitating what he has seen Scott do.

Happy New Year everyone!
