Mardi Gras 2016

Compared to most years, we were party animals this Mardi Gras season! Scott and I attended a grand total of six parades (they have at least 75 parades listed on the official schedule)--two without kids (Knights of Chaos & Krewe of Muses) and five with kids (Krewe of Eve, Marigny, Olympia, and Rex). I usually say we are a one parade family, because honestly the more parades you attend, the more junk you collect and I really hate junk. It was fun to attend more parades though; however, I think we will stick to our one parade tradition next year. It just gets too hard when all the kids are so young and outnumber us. Thanks for all your help Grandma & Grandpa Stewart and Grandma & Grandpa Flamm! Here are a smattering of pictures:

Peter got more loot than the rest of us combined. He would throw up his arms and yell, "throw me something, mister," like he had done it all of his life.

Every float is loaded with various "throws" (beads, stuffed animals, treats, glow toys, etc.).

This is the only picture I got when we attended the Knights of Babylon and Krewe of Muses parades. The Krewe of Muses is known for having the most beautifully decorated ladies high heeled shoes (more like a piece of art). They are hand decorated by the Krewe of Muses parade committee and are a very coveted throw.

This is a picture of one of the floats from the parade:

Adeline almost got run over by a float at this parade. She darted out in front of a truck to grab a toy that she really wanted. It scared us to death!

After watching Kristine at the parades, we now know where Peter gets his party animal side from!

This street is a common parade route, so the trees end up looking very festive.  People joke that this is a unique species of tree only found in this area--a Mardi Gras Tree.

If you look closely you can see where my poor mom got hit in the nose by a plastic cup. Her nose bled for the rest of the parade.

These two are such great friends these days. I LOVE it!
